BACK HOME: Kgaswane

Almost 48 hours after he left Azerbaijan, Mpho Kgaswane finally arrived on the other side of the world, jet-lagged and exhausted but most importantly home.

The 26-year-old Mmankgodi born midfielder made it back to Botswana last Saturday, exactly a week before his passport was due to expire.

Kgaswane, whose contract with Azerbaijani Premier League side Zira FC was terminated by mutual consent, is currently serving a mandatory 14 days in quarantine at Chobe Marina Hotel in Kasane.

Speaking to Voice Sport from the tourist town through the week, a relaxed Kgaswane revealed he managed to catch a flight from Azerbaijan to Turkey last Thursday before connecting on to Ethiopia.

From there he flew to Zambia, before driving 500km in a hired car from Lusaka to Livingstone where he spent Friday night as the border was closed.

He has already been tested for Covid-19, receiving his results on Monday, and will be tested again on Saturday.

“The flight ticket was double the price, P12, 000! I have also paid P3, 500 as my 50 percent share for quarantine accommodation. I am hoping to be out next week Friday then travel to Mmankgodi and meet my family. I was very fortunate that Zambia Senior team technical member Dany Chima Katongo helped to hire a car for me,” said Kgaswane gratefully.
