Opposition leaders against SOPE extension

That will be the worst decision by Masisi govt- Saleshando
Leader of Opposition, Dumelang Saleshando has condemned the looming extension of State of Public Emergency (SOPE) and described it as, ‘The worst reckless’ decision to be taken by President Mokgweetsi Masisi’s government.
Masisi has called all Members of Parliament for an emergency meeting of the National Assembly on Monday with the purpose of considering extending SOPE.
The MP for Maun West said that this would rank as one of the most reckless decisions by Masisi government.
“The economy would not survive an extended SOPE as a business failure and job losses are set to dominate our economy.”
The Umbrella for Democratic Party Vice President said that government should have been courteous enough to at least report back on what has been achieved under the current SOPE, which would not have been achieved without it.
Leader of Minority, Wynter Mmolotsi echoed Saleshando’s sentiments saying he did not think an extension was necessary.

NOT AMUSED: Mmolotsi
“COVID-19 has established itself in the communities notwithstanding the fact that we are under SOPE, so clearly it is not a solution.”
The MP for Francistown South added that the best solution would be to allow the experts under the direction of the Director of Public Health to deal with this pandemic.
