Masowe church donates to Botsalano residents

20 underprivileged Botsalano ward residents will have an extra reason to smile this Independence after receiving food hampers from the Johane Masowe wa Labotlhano – Airport church.

The handover took place at Tatitown Kgotla on Monday and was overseen by Kgosi Ishmael Legwaila and Francistown Deputy Mayor, Gaethuse Ramolotsane among others.

Praising the church for its gesture, Ramolotsane noted such actions were the very essence of ‘botho’ and were vital in supplementing the government’s ongoing fight against Covid-19.

‘RICING’ TO THE CHALLENGE: Ramoltosane handing over food

“It is not easy nowadays for people to donate because it is tough outside, not that we blame them. But when you find someone giving away so many hampers it is because of love,” declared the Deputy Mayor.

He urged the church to pray daily so that God can intervene and a cure for Coronavirus be found.

“You must preach and pray more to raise awareness about the disease!” he stressed.

Turning his attention to the State of Emergency – which was extended by a further six months later that day – Ramolotsane said, “The President can fight this virus if he can be given the privilege by Members of Parliament since in the constituency of Botswana he does not have that power.

“He can make quick decisions when the virus is beyond control by ruling with the State Of Emergency. Pray for that issue because people are worried about it.”

The Deputy Mayor was to get his wish hours later as parliament voted unanimously to extend the SoE, which had been due to elapse on 2 October.

For his part, Pastor Lovemore Chakana praised his congregants for heeding the church’s call for help.

“I would like to thank Batswana for the love they have for they are the ones who bought this food not me. We have started with the donations but it is not the end. We will help where we can. I urge believers to never get tired to help with a good heart!” said Chakana.
