Man crushed to death in train accident

INSET: Supt. Ngada confirmed the incident

Tonota police are investigating a fatal incident in which a physically challenged 37-year-old man was run over by a train last Sunday afternoon.

The train was said to have been moving northwards in Tonota when the tragic incident occurred

Tonota police Station Commander, Oteng Ngada confirmed the incident to The Voice this week. “The accident happened behind Sunset complex around 4pm. According to our investigations the man was physically disabled and he had a problem with walking,” he said.

Supt. Ngada added that the train drivers spotted the man lying motionless on the tracks and tried to caution him by blowing the horn. “He was not moving and since the train does not brake instantly, it ended up running him over,” he said.

Ngada further said the now deceased man was on his way from church as he was wearing his church gear.

He urged the public to be cautious when crossing the railway line, further advising them to cross at gazette points.
