NWDC concerned at the rising Covid-19 cases

FACING THE CHOP: Ntsogotlho

The Northwest District Council Chairperson, Kebareeditse Ntsogotho, has expressed concern over the rise of Covid-19 cases in the district.

Speaking at the Northwest Council full session last Monday, Ntsogotho called for a strict Covid-19 containment measure as the virus continues to soar.

“The Covid-19 statistics continue to rise in our district at an alarming rate, especially since January 2021 and we must all be worried,” highlighted Ntsogotho.

According to Ntsogotho, as of June 14th, the district had recorded a cumulative total of 3 628 Covid-19 cases of which 236 are active cases and a total 78 Covid-19 related deaths.

“The virus has taken its toll on our daily lives; we have and still continue to lose our loved ones due to the pandemic. I therefore urge each and everyone to strictly adhere to all Covid-19 protocols,” he added.

Ntsogotho further revealed that to date the North West District has vaccinated a total of 6 558 clients.

A total of 3 540 were vaccinated with AstraZeneca and upon receiving the Sinovac vaccine in May, about 3018 more people got their Covid-19 jab.

To ensure that eligible people have easy access to the vaccine, the number of vaccination sites in the district has been increased, with mobile sites covering settlements and cattle posts.

Despite the District Health Management Team’s efforts to curb the Covid-19 infections amid shortage of human resource and transport, many people are still not complying.

“The is notable non-compliance to Covid-19 regulations by some individuals and establishments. The DHMT is working in collaboration with the council, Environmental health, bye law and law enforcement units to manage such incidents” added Ntsogotho.

The communities were encouraged to comply with Covid-19 protocols and to register for the vaccine.
