Court shows Lovemore no love

OFF TO PRISON: Lovemore Chivaka

A Zimbabwean man has been arrested and remanded in custody for allegedly defiling a 14-year-old Tonota JSS schoolgirl.

Lovemore Chivaka, 22, is said to have bedded the young teen at Semotswane village on an unknown date between
October to 4th December this year.

In a brief interview with The Voice, Tonota Police Station Commander, Oteng Ngada, revealed the child’s parents reported the matter last Friday after their daughter was late returning home from church.

“When the parents interviewed the girl they found out that she is in a relationship with the suspect and they reported the matter to the police. That is when the suspect was arrested,” explained Ngada, who pleaded with men ‘to respect the rights’ of children

Chivaka was arraigned before Francistown Magistrate Court on Tuesday, where as well as a defilement charge he was hit with one count of entering the country through an ungazetted point.

Successfully securing the suspect’s remand, the Prosecutor, Inspector Kenneth Edward told court, “The investigations are at the initial stage. We are yet to record the statements from the witnesses and the exhibits taken from the complainant are to be taken for forensic analysis. The accused is an illegal immigrant without a permanent place of abode.”

Chivaka will spend festive and the first month of the new year behind bars after court remanded him in custody until his next mention, set for 8 February.
