MISS BOTSWANA: Palesa Molefe

13-strong design team take charge of Palesa’s wardrobe

Postponed mere hours before the queen was due to be crowned after a Covid-19 outbreak in camp, the biggest beauty pageant of them all, Miss World will finally go ahead on 16 March.

Botswana’s fairest in the land, Palesa Molefe, will be among the top 40 contestants heading back to San Juan, Puerto Rico, to resume the quest for glory.

Back in December, the 22-year-old received a heroine’s welcome on her return home, having captured the publics’ heart with her zest for life and down-to-earth nature.

Indeed, with the right wardrobe, many tip the bald beauty as a contender for the top three.

Having come in for slight criticism over a couple of Molefe’s outfits first time round, Miss Botswana organisers are pulling out all the stops to ensure that this time around she has clothes fit for a queen.

To that end, organisers have sought out 13 local designers to work on the Mochudi native’s wardrobe.

“Palesa is currently engaged with preparations for Miss World. She is constantly at the Gym, training on public speaking as well as back-to-back meetings with designers for her wardrobe,” revealed the Miss Botswana PR hierarchy in a recent update.

The design team is made up of: Botocy, Didah, Faddic, Versatile Creations, JJK, Urban Soul, Deanna by Deanna, Lame T designs, Glotto, House of Kay, House of Legends and clothing shop, Options.

“More designers are welcome though,” added the organisers.

Although the clock is ticking – Molefe departs for her delayed date with destiny on 11 March – the Miss Botswana team revealed there are still openings for sponsors to come on board.

“We are in talks with sponsors and are still open for partnerships to join us as we begin the 2022 leg.”
