Francistown – Nata road upgrade not in the pipeline

CONCERNED: Majaga

The construction and upgrading of the Nata – Francistown and Nata –Maun roads is not coming anytime soon.

A question posed by the Member of Parliament for Nata Gweta has revealed what many have been dreading, as the road faces deferment to the next National Development Plan (NDP).

The unpleasant news were revealed in Parliament this week by the newly appointed Minister of Transport and Communications, Thulaganyo Segoko in response to Majaga’s question.

Majaga had wanted to know when the construction of the road will commence.

In response, Segokgo who is also MP for Tlokweng told Parliament that the two projects were not included in the current (NDP11) as government does not have funds for them.

Regarding the Nata-Maun road, Segokgo said government is in the process of procuring a loan from the Chinese government for the reconstruction of the road.

He said the expectation is that the loan agreement will be concluded before the end of the year.

The Minister further said the feasibility study which is a requirement of the concession loan has already been completed and is being studied by Chinese Authorities.
