FWB adapts to the times

Although the fashion was as fabulous as ever, this year’s Fashion Without Borders (FWB) was a slightly subdued affair due to Covid-19 restrictions limiting the audience.

In keeping with the times, FWB’s sixth edition was held under the theme ‘The Phygital Experience’, as organisers combined the virtual with the physical.

As well as a live catwalk showcasing the work of local designers, there were also pre-recorded videos from around the continent featuring the creations of some of Africa’s finest stylists.

The show, held last Friday at Molapo Piazza, started with a glimpse of the future, as students from Gaborone Technical College (GTC) took centre stage with their designs.

Then it was the turn of more established names to enjoy the spotlight, with their daring designs regularly drawing gasps of admiration from the small crowd.

Speaking at the event on behalf of one of the main sponsors, Orange Botswana Acting Communications and Public Relations Manager, Ratang Motladiile stressed the company was proud to play its part in keeping the creative industry alive.

“We are passionate and dedicated to growing local talent in the creative and arts industry. This year alone we have held three music virtual concerts with over 10 local artists participating!” revealed Motladiile, who promised Orange will continue to support the creative and innovation industry.

Local designers who showcased at the event included: Donlu Amore, Diconza Designs, Les Wear Exclusives, Lenita Fashions, Just Grip Designs, Kanyo M, Trudy Vidic and Versatile Creations.

Adding international flair to the occasion, albeit virtually, was Ishmael Tsakatsa from Zimbabwe and Nigeria’s Geo-Kaiser clothing.
