In January, Gaborone International School (GIS) launched a school upgrade project with the aim of introducing a newly built science and technology block, improved sports facilities and roads (in and out of the school).
Giving an update of how the developments are proceeding this week, GIS Executive Head Gerald Hilton said, “GIS is part of ADvTECH group of schools which owns more than 110 schools in South Africa, Botswana and Kenya.
The group continues to invest in education in Botswana, to provide global citizens of tomorrow with ‘quality affordable education’.
GIS has shown tremendous growth since ADvTECH took over in 2015 and the upgrades are an investment in our amazing school, for both students, parents and stakeholders,” he said.
Hilton further highlighted the official ground breaking of projects and an estimated time of their completion.
“The developments started in March 2022 after receiving a go-ahead by the council.
The external road upgrade is set to be completed by end of August while the sports facility upgrade and the State of Art, Science and Technology Centre are set to finish by September and November respectively,” Hilton highlighted.
Quizzed about the significance of these projects,he said: “These new upgrade developments will not only enhance the teaching environment for our students but to prepare them for the fifth industrial revolution. Parents will be certain that GIS’s high academic standards are maintained and improved on.
Moreover, the acclaimed school also serves the local community through the external road upgrade which not only benefits the parents but the public at large, as the extensive upgrade will alleviate traffic congestion on the Kubu road.”
Meanwhile, Hilton took the opportunity to brag on the joy and pride of the school, Rorisang Lekgela, aa Karateka who has been flying GIS flag high.
“Lekgela’s final victorious matches at Botswana Karate Association (BOKA) Hall in March 2022 secured her a place in the national team and she went on to represent Botswana at the Africa Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region 5 Championships and performed well in May 2022.
Recently, Lekgela continued to make us proud as she bagged two Gold medal at BOKA competition,” he said.
