‘Jesus’ of mmopane pleads guilty to house break-in

A notorious young criminal commonly known as ‘Jesus’ has pleaded guilty to four counts of house break-in and stealing from a dwelling place.

The 21-year-old, Ditiro Godfrey Ngakane, who has been identified as the leader of a gang terrorising residents of Mmopane and other surrounding areas, including Gaborone, had recently moved to Molepolole village where he had unleashed a reign of terror on residents by breaking into their houses to rob them of their valuables.

The young man made headlines in 2018 when he trended on social media and television news as a dangerous armed robber.

He has been charged with breaking into Phenyo Prince Reetsang’s house at Lekgwapheng ward between March 15th and 16th, 2022 to steal household items worth P1,471.

In another matter, Ngakane, accompanied by 21-year-old Thabo Saobi of Borakalalo ward, who also pleaded guilty, between March 11th, 2022 and March 16th, 2022 at Ntshonyana ward, still in Molepolole, acting jointly with a common purpose, broke into a house belonging to Ogomoditse Keberekeng and stole properties valued at P3,090.

The duo stole a black couch, blankets, two-burner stoves, set of pots and other utensils.

They were both granted bail on condition that they each bind themselves with the sum of P1,000; each provide surety binding himself with the sum of P1,000 and attend court when they are needed.

In the matter involving him alone, Ngakane was granted bail on condition that he provides one surety binding himself with the sum of P3,000.

Since the duo pleaded guilty to the offences, they will appear for facts presentation on March 31st, 2022.

However, according to Botswana Police crime and criminal recordings from 2001 up to 2022, Ngakane committed 11 offences including malicious damage to property, arson, rape and mostly house break-in and theft.
