Mababe Chief in court for child support

Mababe village Chief, Kgosi Kgosimontle Kebuelemang, was last week arraigned before a Maun Magistrates court for failing to pay child support.

This followed a court order made on the 7th of December 2016, ordering him to pay P2 000 monthly fee towards the maintenance of his minor child.

However he is said to have since failed to comply with the said court order and skipped payments nineteen times.

He is now facing the 19 counts of failure to comply with a court order, an offence that has seen the arrears accumulating to P29 750.00.

Pleading with the court to reserve his plea, Kebuelemang requested to be allowed to seek legal representation.

“May the plea be reserved to allow me to engage an attorney, I will make sure that I bring him to my next appearance” pleaded Kebuelemang.

The request was dully granted by magistrate Gofaone Mosweu as plea was reserved for all the 19 counts.

In an interview with Maun Police Station Commander, Chenamo Orateng, who is the substantive prosecutor in the matter, he revealed that the chief had made an application for variation on the 30th May 2018 for the money to be reduced to P1 250.00 and his plea was granted.

“He had made an application for the amount to be reduced but he still did not pay,” said Orateng.

Kebuelemang will appear again in court on the 3rd of June for mention.
