Tonota police are investigating a fatal incident in which a physically challenged 37-year-old man was run over by a train last Sunday afternoon.

The train was said to have been moving northwards in Tonota when the tragic incident occurred

Supt. Ngada added that the train drivers spotted the man lying motionless on the tracks and tried to caution him by blowing the horn. “He was not moving and since the train does not brake instantly, it ended up running him over,” he said.

Ngada further said the now deceased man was on his way from church as he was wearing his church gear.

He urged the public to be cautious when crossing the railway line, further advising them to cross at gazette points.

He said it was the first such incident to be recorded under his jurisdiction this year.
