ON A MISSION: Koitsiwe

Rasesa youth get empowerment centre

A youth leader in Rasesa, Tsholofelo Koitsiwe, has taken it upon herself to uplift the lives of other youth in the village.

Koitsiwe is in the process of setting up a center in the village where youth can exhibit their ornamental products to attract potential buyers such as hotels.

The place will also be used by the youth to acquire skills in wood and metalwork.

Koitsiwe has explained that she was influenced to take up the initiative after noticing that there is idleness in the village due to unemployment, resulting in other social ills such as alcohol and drug abuse.

Despite having a brilliant idea to rescue the youth in her home village, Koitsiwe, however, was faced with a hurdle of lack of land to set up her center.

She, however, has been rescued by the Kasale brothers who have given her a place to set up the center for rent-free.

Speaking on behalf of the brothers, Marc Kasale who is also the Managing Director of The Voice Newspaper said Koitsiwe had approached them about her idea but indicated that she lacked a place to implement her project.

“She approached us and mentioned that as a youth in Rasesa, she has realized that most of the youth in Rasesa have nothing to do, which leads to social ills like alcohol abuse,” said Kasale.

He explained that Koitsiwe said the village is full of talented and capable individuals who can produce amazing products with their hands, but unfortunately they do not have a place to do that.

“Because we have a place which is currently not being used, we suggested to her that we will on our personal capacities let her use it rent-free for the youth to try and make a living for themselves and not loiter around the village,” he said.

Kasale said they hope to see the project growing into something which will upskill and upgrade their potentials and capabilities.

“We wish to see them growing into viable entrepreneurs and monetize their crafts to sustain their livelihoods,” said Kasale.

Since the place needs to be refurbished before it can be used, Mochudi Hardware has come on board to help renovate the place.

The store Managing Director and Founder, Sandeep Gulati said he has agreed to help repair the place as a way to give back to the community.
