Botswana Sectors of Educators Trade Union(BOSETU) members have been urged to venture into businesses.

BOSETU National Treasurer, Samuel Aboneng, gave the life changing remarks at a recently held BOSETU business day in Letlhakane.

“Our main purpose as a trade union is not only confined to rights and welfare of our members at the workplace, but our purpose also continues to evolve over time, whereupon today, we have included among other objectives to provide social and economic benefits for our members, membership empowerment on a wide range of issues and many others,” said Aboneng.

He said mindset change is critical for attaining a knowledge-based economy. “Our members and the society in general need to change from being employees to being employers. We all know that the global economy is gradually shifting from resource based to knowledge based. This day, will give you the key ingredients of being active participants in various economic sectors through the knowledge that will be imparted to you. Our country is still slow to venture into entrepreneurship and as such, we have become perennial net importers as a country, our import bill as a country is beyond measure. We can only reverse this by serious venturing into entrepreneurship, to supply goods locally and abroad.”

Different stakeholders gave presentations on the products, services and opportunities that await them in the business environment.

Lucara, Stanbic, FNB, Access Bank, CEDA, Small Stock Farmers Association and NMG Administrators were among the stakeholders.
