THE ELDERLY: At New Disaneng kgotla

Bagolo Khumo Ngwao Society held its 7th annual Elderly Appreciation Day last Friday at New Disaneng Kgotla.

Founded in 2013 with the mandate to appreciate the role of the elderly, the organisation’s Chairperson, Girliah Mokgweetsi explained it was a project very close to their hearts.

“These elders are our parents, we are where we are today because of their love and sacrifices. It is therefore important that we acknowledge and celebrate them, they are our heroes!” stressed an emotional Mokgweetsi.

The feel-good event saw 60 elderly people treated to a meal. They were also given food hampers to see them through the festive holidays and into the New Year.

In addition to the early Christmas gifts, the society organised a mini health screening where the senior citizens checked their weight, blood sugar levels and blood pressure in a bid to encourage them to keep healthy.

APPRECIATED HEROES: Receiving hampers

For her part, one of the recipients, Evans Samaono expressed her gratitude for the kind gesture.

“It is my first time attending this event but I am very happy with what BagoloKhumoYaNgwao Society is doing for us. We play a key role in the society but we are hardly recognised,” beamed the old woman.

Bagolo Khumo Ya Ngwao is a non-profit organisation fully registered and recognized under the societies act. It started with only 10 members but has since seen its membership increased to 23.

The organisation sustains itself through contributions as well as aid from their sponsors.
