Masunga records low crime over Christmas holiday

Masunga police Station Commander, Superintendent Gaolathe Ngayaya, says there has been a considerable decline in criminal activity in her policing area over the Christmas holiday.

Besides two shop breaking incidents last night (December 28), where P90 was stolen and another where clothes and cellphones were stolen from a Chinese shop, Superintendent Ngayaya says the situation in her policing area has generally been calm.

She however emphasised that they took every crime seriously and appealed to the public to help with information that may lead top the arrest of the culprits.

Superintendent Ngayaya suspects that the thieves that stole P90 may have been targeting cash from the Orange Money transactions. “I guess they thought the Orange Money cash is left in the shop,” she said and added: “They also broke into a Chinese shop. So I urge people to be on the lookout and report anyone they see selling brand new clothes and cellphones or any other electronic gadgets”.

Meanwhile, the Masunga police Station Commander commended residents for remaining calm and complying with the curfew regulations.

She said they have since charged about 15 people since December 24th. “Mostly they were motorists who gave all sorts of excuses on why they were still out after 7pm,” she said.

Ngayaya said they also had to deal with people who were drinking from prohibited areas and gathering illegally. “People seem to forget that a gathering of more than two people unless permitted to do so is prohibited by law,” she warned.

“We also found some bar owners who illegally traded on Sunday. They were duly charged because trading of liquor is only permitted from Thursday to Saturday unless you have an appropriate trading license,” Ngayaya said.
