Meddling Magosi

DIS CHIEF: Magosi

Is spy chief interfering in Cabinet matters?

The Director General of Directorate of Intelligence Services (DIS), Brigadier Peter Magosi has been accused of meddling in cabinet issues.

The accusations come following a failed trip in which some Ministers had planned to visit Selibe Phikwe for first hand information on an apparent impasse between Selibe Phikwe Economic Diversification Unit (SPEDU) and a contractor in the region.

Members of the Cabinet reportedly felt Magosi was behind the botched trip and voiced concern over the spy chief’s interference.

However, when contacted for comment, DIS Spokesperson, Edward Robert, explained they were duty bound to raise with Ministries and Departments any issues that threaten national security as and when they pick them.

He stressed they will not back-down on this obligation.

“The Directorate derives its mandate from the Intelligence and Security Service Act, which unambiguously projects the DIS as the custodian of national security.”

Robert also rubbished allegations Magosi bosses Ministers around, dismissing such talk as nonsense peddled by people trying to discredit the organisation.

“They have been doing that for a long time now. We however, remain unfazed. We will continue to advise government organs on national security matters, in line with the laws governing our establishment,” he concluded.
