Threat to kill sends groom to jail

GROOM IN JAIL: Peter Keisitswe

Marriage preparations took a dark twist for a groom that landed in prison over an altercation with his mother.

38-year-old Peter Keisitswe of Masilwane ward, Molepolole, appeared before Molepolole Magistrate Court on Tuesday facing a charge of threat to kill before he was further remanded in custody.

He was accused of uttering a threat to kill his 55-year-old mother, Sephalela Segadimo when he said, “Ke seka ka go fitlhela mo lwapeng, fa ke ka go filhela ke tsile go go bolaya.” (I shouldn’t find you home, if I do I am going to kill you.”

He allegedly threatened his mother on Saturday during a meeting in the presence of other family members after the mother had sent advice to his son through an emissary to tell him not to buy the bride’s clothes without consulting her uncles.

That seemed not to go well with Keisitswe who lost his cool and accused his mother of trying to delay his wedding and vowed that he would rather get married without her blessings than wait for the uncles as suggested.

“We were in a wedding preparatory meeting and the meeting didn’t end well. Instead we ended up having an altercation and some of the unfortunate words ended up coming out because I was angry, ” Keisitswe remorsefully told the court.

Despite his impassioned plea with the court not to remand him because doing that could cost him his job as a Machine Operator, the prosecution did not trust that if freed he would not accomplish his murderous mission.

Presiding prosecutor, Sergeant Bourman Batshidi told the court that the investigations were complete but the matter was yet to be sent to Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for consent to prosecute while they will also be filing an affidavit from the investigating officer to decide if the accused is a bail candidate or not.

Chief Magistrate Goabaone Rammapudi-Lesedi remanded Keisitswe in custody till next mention set for June 1st, 2021.
