Lobatse Magistrates’ Court has remanded in custody a trainee teacher who raped an 8-year-old Standard 2 schoolgirl inside a storeroom at Molapowabojang Primary School last week Monday.
The accused 21-year-old Mogomotsi Kgosiitsile of Mokele ward, Molapowabojang was arrested last week Thursday and he appeared before court this week on Monday.
According to Lobatse Station Commander, Superintendent Baakile Moshashane, the accused was left with the students while the class teacher was away.
“We are still on investigations, there are such allegations reported to us. The incident allegedly occurred when the class teacher was away on duty to attend a meeting,” briefly confirmed Superintendent Moshashane.
The incident is said to have been reported to the police after the teacher arrived and found a used condom wrapper inside the classroom storeroom.
Upon questioning the students revealed that one of the girls was raped.
The girl’s mother also learnt about the incident after she was phoned by the teacher and asked to go to school to discuss the matter.
The suspect allegedly instructed all the pupils to go to the toilets and told the victim to remain behind.
He then allegedly called the girl to the storeroom where he raped her.
Kgosiitsile will appear for mention on November 15th, 2021.
