Water flows for Nkange

Ntimbale water reticulation project complete

Member of Parliament for Nkange Constituency Dr Never Tshabang says water crisis in his constituency will be a distant memory in a couple of weeks.

In an interview with The Voice on Wednesday morning, Tshabang said the Ntimbale Dam Water reticulation project is done and ready to supply portable water to his constituents.
“It’s only a matter of days. In fact we were looking at 10th November,” said Tshabang.

Tshabang says his constituency started experiencing water problems after four of the boreholes dried up.

“We were left to rely on six boreholes of which two had very low yields and could not meet the water demand in the Nkange constituency,” Tshabang said.

In a recent kgotla meeting Tshabang told residents that the project should have been handed in October, but he contractor had asked for a month’s extension.

He explained that the company was hard hit by a high rate of Covid-19 infections resulting in prolonged absence of affected employees.

He said to mitigate the water crisis, Water Utilities Corporation has been bowsing water to the affected villages.

However the bowsing of water in the village has created a lot of tension within the constituency, particularly for residents of Madikwe ward in Tutume.

For residents of this ward their water crisis has been unbearable as Water Utilities Corporation had failed to honour their promise of the provision of jojo tanks for ease of water bowsing.
One resident who has been very vocal about the Madikwe ward situation, Michael Mosweu told The Voice that their taps have been dry since July.

“For almost four months now, we’ve been getting water from the river as all attempts to get answers from the relevant authorities bore no fruits,” said Mosweu.

“We’ve been sent from pillar to post, and never received a convincing answer as to why water is not available in one ward in Tutume,” charged Mosweu.

Responding to this, MP Tshabang said he knew about the situation in Madikwe ward.

“In our last kgotla meeting, WUC had promised to provide jojo tanks for the ward as they do not have a tank for water bowsing,” he said.

The legislator however pleaded with residents to be patient as potable water from Ntimbale dam is just a few days away.
